November 1: Remote Desktop Change
Important Update

This morning a communication was sent regarding a change to take place on November 1.

This change does not affect Medical Campus Faculty and Staff already utilizing a department supported and approved Gateway, Citrix, VPN, or Remote Desktop Services (RDS) clients.

We apologize for any concerns the original message may have raised.

Original Communication:
Washington University Information Technology (WashU IT) has identified that machines on the network which utilize the remote desktop service have been the targets of attempted hacking.

In order to secure the network WashU IT Network Engineering will block the port which will disable use of remote desktop from off campus.  Effective November 1, if you are off campus and wish to use remote desktop, you will first connect to the University with a Virtual Private Network (VPN).

Click here for information on using a VPN then expand the section on “VPN and Remote Desktop”.
