The WUMS Security team is implementing an endpoint Data Loss Protection (eDLP) system. The software is installed within the operating system and touches each application. It detects information on both the user and system level to inspect files looking for sensitive information such as protected health information (PHI). Currently, the software has been loaded on all Windows based machines (will be deployed to Mac devices in the future) and is set for a “passive monitoring” mode wherein the WUSM Security team is analyzing the outflow of unsecured PHI. Before any further action happens, there will be some data governance structure set up to protect the outflow of sensitive data from the Medical School and university. We wanted you to be aware of this project, the resources in the WUSM Security team will be available to answer any questions.
